italy.

this is the bean updating from florence, italy. oh hallo, y'all! tk and i arrived today in the afternoon and went to queue for the galleria academia. it houses michelangelo's statue of david, which was nothing short of spectacular, but do book in advance if you're intending to visit. we waited for one and a half hours in the sweltering sun, which was actually modest.
waved farewell to the beautiful hilltop town of assisi, hometown of st. francis, this morning. it must be one of the most quiet, tranquil and peaceful places i've visited. and the entire town is built out of the same shades of bricks, so nothing seems out of place. adorable.
we liked naples for it's untidiness and distinct flavour. no one follows road rules there, cars seem to drive everywhere and in all directions. and using the pedestrian crossing is almost as dangerous as just jaywalking because the cars don't seem to stop for you. pompeii was interesting, but the sun was unbearable. notice i repeated that twice. the sun here in the summer is terrible. and i didn't bring enough light clothes.
rome will always hold a special place in my heart, for i saw it with the original europe group, ryan, xizhen, ningqi, xiaoxuan, wenyang, weixiang, quanyao and ivy. ronnie had already returned to singapore so i didn't get the chance to meet up with him. also met up with dear em! managed to cover most of the blockbuster (according to qy) sights such as the colloseum, the pantheon, palatine hill, the roman forum, vatican city, the sistine chapel and st. peter's basilica. the queue for the vatican museums was two and a half hours in the hot sun again, which we spent playing bridge and talking crap.
five days were set aside for rome, which was more than enough, so we visited some ancient christian catacombs and the appian way on our last day. after five days in rome, we were perhaps experiencing 'ruins fatigue', which exhibits itself in feeling the need to yawn on encountering more ruins.
we've been having quite some trouble with trenitalia (the italian train company) here. very confused on when we need to make reservations, and when we don't. managed to escape two fines already, which is incredibly lucky. we were almost fined on the leg from rome to assisi for not reserving our tickets, but the conductors said the train ticketing people were on strike that day, so we didn't have to pay. and today, we could have been fined 25 euros for not validating our tickets, but the conductor saw that we were confused tourists and decided to let us off.
all in all, we've been having a wonderful time. on to venice soon. will update more where internet access is available! miss y'all. :)

wanderlust.

and goodbye singapore, for a while. :)

my travelling partner won't be bringing his laptop, and i suspect internet access won't come so cheaply, but i'll try to blog from time to time.

yesterday was nice. thank you rose, aileen and joel for popping by, playing with arthur's bones and trying to save my desktop from sure death.

will miss you all terribly, you know who you are.

italy, austria, czech republic and germany beckon.

see you peeps in july, when school threatens to consume us once again.

here, there and everywhere.

Here, making each day of the year
Changing my life with a wave of her hand
Nobody can deny that there's something there

There, running my hands through her hair
Both of us thinking how good it can be
Someone is speaking but she doesn't know he's there

I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere

Knowing that love is to share
Each one believing that love never dies
Watching her eyes and hoping I'm always there

happy, that you're home.

test drive.

test-driving my new panasonic fx01w today at lunch with the parents. the major pluses would be the 28mm wide-angle lens, the optical image stabilisation mechanism and the excellent battery life. the major flaw would be significant noise levels at high ISOs, which render the images unusable unless you don't mind extensive post-processing. but i can live with it, for the price at which i got this little gem.

two of the people i love most are returning to our sunny (and now rainy) island tonight. something to smile about, indeed. :)

i'll see you soon.

how sweet it is, to be able to say "see you soon" and know that this time, it is true.

:)

nine months ago, you left. now here we are, and i am happy you're coming home.

boo.

computer died. this is me on my dad's laptop.

was in a rather bad mood because of that a while ago.

but now, oh well. so many things to settle this week, besides getting the computer repaired and hoping my files are intact.

good luck, you! i miss you.

update on wednesday, computer's been fixed! something was wrong with the graphics card, i think. it's since been taken out of my computer... apparently it served no real purpose because i don't play computer games.

farewell breakfast for yemily, hemily, planned and executed rather last-minutely. will be meeting up with her in rome! :)

i unfold.

the day started with a visit to my dentist. yes, that's a model of my teeth for the fitting of new retainers!

spent the rest of the day at the beach with some medicine peeps and joel's friends! aileen and i made a rather last minute decision to come! am now nicely toasted pink, and very tired. though i must admit i was quite the lazy bean today. beachy photos will (soon) be found here, joachim yau's blog.

dropped in on celene with joachim and joel. chocolate fondue and warm conversation... what a good way to end the day. :)

to get by without the help of alcohol.

was nicely surprised when hon and zhenjin appeared at our (ai, rose and i) somewhat weekly dinner/ supper outing!

Sunset sailing on april skies
Bloodshot fire clouds in your eyes
I can't say what I might believe
But if God made you
He's in love with me

'tis june already.

shopping with joel, aileen and hong. looking at everything, from huge books at kino to lingerie at blush! wonky, good fun we had.

i was reading through old emails today, and here is something a certain friend wrote a while ago in an email to me.

What differentiates love from a mere liking or crush? The desire for the best for the person you love, and not just yourself? Love is irrational, for it makes us willing to endure personal hardships for no other reason than our love for those special someones. Love is noble, for it shapes us into better people. Love is a journey of discovery, in which we learn much about ourselves and the ones whom we love. Love is something we should not shun, for though it requires sacrifice, it gives us so much more, and brings us such happiness that cannot be elsewhere attained.

'tis true, love is everything. :) and it's june already! europe, and a month away awaits.
