mixtapes and mistakes.

what a glorious mash-up, by norwegian recycling.

for all the mistakes i've made, every occasion has been one of learning and renewal.

i have finally found the missing pieces, and they're falling into place.

chest pain.

a change of perspective today, with myself being the patient. the on-off, sudden and sharp chest pain i've been experiencing for a few months grew worse and rather unbearable yesterday night, lasting a few hours. had to take very shallow breaths and try hard not to cough or sneeze. the pain would go away for a while, when i forgot about it, then suddenly make me catch my breath again.

chest x-ray and ecg were normal, so the doctor thinks it's either musculoskeletal, some esophageal spasm or a small mitral valve prolapse. interestingly, he gave me this small cup of medicine to drink at the A&E and i actually felt much better. psychological, maybe? shall adopt the conservative approach - watchful waiting, hoping it'll go away forever. and go for my cardiology review. aye, was hoping it would be some infection that could easily be cleared with antibiotics. the pain is gone for now...

oh well.

the mind's eye.

two weeks ago, on a quiet afternoon alone, i wandered into the singapore art museum. one of the exhibitions on was widayat between worlds : a retrospective by indonesian painter haji widayat. his paintings were filled with enchanted and wondrous things. he painted paradise, as well as mystical forests and strange creatures. the painter's eye (and mind) captured such beautiful imagery. it's a pity these are too small.

from the international herald tribune :

" Meticulously painted with exquisite detailing, Widayat's paintings are identifiable by his signature flat and simplified representational style, often using repetition, weaving in some modernist and abstract stylizations. Yet Joanna Lee, the curator of this major retrospective, argues that far from being merely decorative, Widayat's works also have deep spirituality and meaning. His fantasy world draws from Javanese legends he had heard as a child as well as from a Judeo-Islamic narrative of human genesis and creation, which are reflected in some of the subject matter that includes images like Adam and Eve and Noah's Ark. "

it's magical when art, like literature, can transport you. exhibition ends october 28!

in other news, ortho has started and tomorrow is our first day at TTSH. we'll see how things go. :)

and last words...

i'll miss you muchly, CG12!

I'm burning through the skies
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm trav'ling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man of you

Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball, don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('Cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (Yes I'm having a good time)
I don't want to stop at all
