zhimin was talking about mandarin oldies over dinner. this is my personal favourite, shanghai night by zhou xuan. she's from my grandparents' era, but my parents love her music too. this particular song has the big band feeling of the 1930s. i'm seeing smoky shanghainese lounges with ladies in slinky cheongsams dancing with gentlemen in stiff suits...

i'm out of time and all i got is four minutes.

back at sngs for the 75th anniversary funfair on a very warm day. the blessing of good weather, i guess. it was soooo crowded. that's our physics teacher mr gan. cuteness!

evening - gathering and games at my house. hanging with you guys is always awesome!

been listening to madonna + justin timberlake + timbaland's four minutes to save the world on repeat for some time already now. (thanks zj!) this is definitely going to be a club hit.

and i'm looking forward to this - reliving my childhood with indiana jones!

so goodbye yellow brick road.

i love flickr! stunning storefronts, gorgeous views of the world around and theatre in real life.

in love's game.

We're made out of blood and rust
Looking for someone to trust without a fight
I think that you came too soon
You're the honey and the moon that lights up my night

I know a girl
She puts the color inside of my world
She's just like a maze
Where all of the walls all continually change
And I've done all I can
To stand on her steps with my heart in my hands
Now I'm starting to see
Maybe it's got nothing to do with me

Baby, I'm too lost in you, caught in you
Lost in everything about you
So deep, I can't sleep, I can't think
I just think about the things that you do
I'm too lost in you

that's joseph arthur's honey and the moon, john mayer's daughters and the sugababes' too lost in you. four years later, the songs i loved in 2004 still remain touching and true.

crank it up, give it to me, come on.

i wonder how many pulmonary tuberculosis patients one has to walk past/ talk to/ examine before one can be classified as 'exposed'.

the polyclinic posting has been quite an eye-opener. sleepy at times, but it really shows what makes up the basics of our healthcare system - primary, first-line care. and providing for the common man, who only pays around $9 for consultation. can't wait to observe developmental assessment and play with toddlers.

the food around toa payoh is really good too. want to photograph this delicious beef noodles i've enjoyed twice so far already. :)

don't hold back, you are certain to impress.

i'm seeing how everything relates to internal medicine. think it would be nice to own harrison's... it's seems like one of those books that has the ability to make you feel immensely learned just from reading it. just like bailey and love's short practice of surgery, which i enjoyed leafing through during surgery posting but hardly utilized in its entirety. definitely wasn't 'short' at all. yes it would be very nice to own harrison's but would i have the time to read it?

i'm also thinking i want to visit buenos aires. i think i fell in love with it listening to my father's stories from when he worked in latin america... and well, that song in evita.

What's new Buenos Aires?
I'm new, I wanna say I'm just a little stuck on you
You'll be on me too

I get out here, Buenos Aires
Stand back, you oughta know whatcha gonna get in me
Just a little touch of star quality

Fill me up with your heat, with your noise
With your dirt, overdo me
Let me dance to your beat, make it loud
Let it hurt, run it through me.
Don't hold back, you are certain to impress
Tell the driver this is where I'm staying

Hello, Buenos Aires
Get this, just look at me dressed up, somewhere to go
We'll put on a show

one day, i will visit BA. :)

my favourites on flickr. running doggies are such happy beings! and i love a comfy lean on the shoulder while the rest of the world passes by.

this was such a nice long weekend... i kinda lost track of the time. will have to be up early to find my way to toa payoh polyclinic tomorrow.

here comes the sun, doo-doo.

The Beatles - Here Comes the Sun

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter

Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

posted this because the song and video (made by a fan) make me smile. the beatles have that effect! my fave song by them would have to be here, there and everywhere. that song is magic.

i like your geometry.

playing games at settler's cafe with jingyi, andre and hh was much fun! :) this should become a regular thing.

our sports camp man.

i like the geometry! at central mall, clarke quay.

Two of us wearing raincoats,
Standing solo in the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

joy! today is the first day out of the whole family med posting i haven't felt sleepy post-8pm! a momentous occasion! okay no la not a big deal. but i'm happy i feel so much better. it feels good not being sleepy during dinnertime. probably due to the fact i slept at 8pm yesterday night. 8pm to 6am, a wonderful 10 hours of rest!

looking forward to sampling all the good eats in toa payoh next week with CG2. :D

green tea-ramisu.

the long-awaited but somewhat last-minute gathering at sushi teh, thomson plaza.

hon lyn peeks out from behind emmy, zj, suri and joel.

with jiaxing.

i always feel like having cha soba (japanese cold green tea noodles) at japanese restaurants. and i always feel rather unsatisfied...

zj and emmy's hotpot.

salmon rice.

poons and jiaxing.

hon, rose and emmy are hungry monsters!

theme was: something that represents rose.

today was our last day at camry medical centre with dr teo. we only spent 4 days at the GP clinic, but it has been quite enriching and fun. dr teo is a lovely tutor to have- her warm, professional manner and dedication to her patients really showed.

yesterday and today were +ve days, despite the hot weather yesterday and sudden downpour today. caught up with andy over coffee, which was nice. i'm thinking i shouldn't patronise coffee club in the future. haven't had good experiences there so far.

Elaine Paige & Barbara Dickson - I know him so well (from the musical Chess)
Uploaded by oliehoek
Nothing is so good it lasts eternally
Perfect situations must go wrong
But this has never yet prevented me
Wanting far too much for far too long

Looking back I could have played it differently
Won a few more moments who can tell
But it took time to understand the man
Now at least I know I know him well

a beautiful song, with heartfelt, well-written lyrics.

(from wiki) In this duet, two women – Svetlana, the Russian chess champion's estranged wife, and Florence, his mistress – express their bittersweet feelings for him and at seeing their relationships fall apart.

bear grylls.

ever watch the discovery channel show about survival, man vs wild?

i think it's somewhat phoney and all... but the show's host, bear grylls (what a name!) is my new tv crush of sorts. the previous one being gil grissom (fictional character played by william peterson) from CSI.

he should consider an indiana jones-type of career, haha.

she breathes the air and flies away.

lunch with the family at asia grand restaurant (odeon towers) - the food was excellent, for the decent price of about SGD50 per head we were very satisfied. freshly baked bo lo buns!

juicy peking duck. this was delicious!

crispy chicken.

ba ting fish hongkong style.

fried rice.

dessert was almond cream. a tad too sweet for my liking.

jie and mommy.

pap and jie.

there was an exhibition at the national library on children's book illustrators. these are pictures from nikolaus heidelbach's book, the thirteenth fairy.

these are so weirdly wonderful. don't you wonder what they write in children's books nowadays?
